The Donald J. Savoie Institute has donated 140 copies of the biography of Premier Louis J. Robichaud (in English and in French) to the province’s high schools. Titled Louis J. Robichaud: A Man for the Moment, the book was written by renowned Professor Donald J. Savoie, Clément-Cormier Research Chair in Economic Development.

This biography of the first Acadian elected premier of New Brunswick paints a portrait of a politician who, through his extraordinary leadership, transformed New Brunswick in the 1960s. Once a province that was inward-looking and resistant to change, New Brunswick, under Robichaud’s leadership and through his bold initiatives, became a modern and dynamic society. Donald J. Savoie argues, in particular, that while Robichaud’s achievements may be considered specific to his era, his political courage and vision make him a role model for today’s politicians, legislators, and public servants.

The Institute’s President and CEO, Jacques Paul Couturier, expressed his hope that this donation would help raise awareness—particularly among the younger generation—of Louis J. Robichaud’s significant contribution to the modernization of New Brunswick and of the enduring legacy of one of their province’s greatest builders.
